Today I want to share a creative exercise. You can use an existing photo or take one just for this project. The image should be a strong abstract yet simple in design…. at least for your first one. Process as you want and save the first image with the file name followed by “ORG” for original.

90 clockwise rotation
Then Image > Image Rotation > 90 CW
File > Save As and use the current file name changing “ORG” to 90.

180 clockwise rotation
Use the 90 file and Image > Image Rotation > 90 CW
File > Save As and use the current file name changing the “90” to 180.

270 clockwise rotation
Use the 180 file and Image > Image Rotation > 90 CW
File > Save As and use the current file name changing the “180” to 270.
Now you have four interesting designs. Doing this exercise may help you to think outside the box when using abstracts. Study how each makes you feel… do they affect you in different ways?
Which is your favorite? And why??
Fun tip for thinking out of the box! I often just think of one composition and have to step out of my comfort zone.
Thanks Paul… looks like you had a good time in the Smokies.
You might enjoy a Photoshop exercise in the latest Digital Photo UK magazine – taking an image and flipping it for mirror (like we’ve done for a long time)… but then tweaking so it doesn’t look like a mirror image… going to give it a try!
